According to a statement released by the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), Alikhan Rajabli, a member of the party’s Masalli district branch, was detained by the Masalli District Police Department. A court has ordered a pretrial detention measure against him for a period of three months.

It is reported that Alikhan Rajabli has been charged under Article 234.1 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the illegal acquisition, possession, preparation, processing, or transportation of a large quantity of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances without intent to sell. The charge carries a potential prison sentence of three to eight years.

The party stated that Rajabli’s arrest is solely related to his political activity on social media.

According to the opposition party, nearly 20 of its members and activists are currently serving long-term prison sentences. Among them is the party’s chairman, Ali Karimli. Although they face various charges—most notably drug-related accusations—the party claims that these arrests are politically motivated.
